BOOK: “BEYOND WHAT IS SEEN (THE REFUGEE WHO TELLS THEMSELVES)” – DİSCUSSİON ON THE ISSUES COVERED İN THE BOOK

As part of the “Beyond What Is Seen: The Refugee Who Tells Themselves” visual culture and representation project, a special discussion about the book was organized in collaboration with Istanbul Aydin University (IAU), Faculty of Communication, Advertising Department, Anatolian Education and Culture Foundation (AKEV), Turkey Refugee Council (TMK), Kucukcekmece Municipality, and Umit Inatci Art Center.

On October 19, 2022, at 17:00, a discussion hosted by ADASANAT, moderated by F. Nazlı Köksal, took place. During the discussion, Ümit Inatçı and Emre Zeytinoğlu shared their views on the project and the book. This event, which brought together various non-governmental organizations and municipalities interested in the issue of migration and refugees, tackled one of the most discussed topics in recent years. The book, designed for students who have migrated or been forced to migrate for various reasons and continue their lives within the borders of Turkey, uses photographs to depict how refugee children in the process of building their identities perceive themselves, their families, and their surroundings in their new living conditions, as well as their expectations from social life. This work, where the phenomenon of migration is presented from the perspective of the migrant or refugee, aims to shed light on similar projects to be conducted in the future.
