LOYALTY MEETINGS 2024: SUPPORT AND SHARING FOR THE ELDERLY CONTINUES
The Vefa Meetings project, initiated in collaboration with Istanbul Aydın University and the Anatolian Education and Culture Foundation (AKEV), continues this year at the Zeytinburnu Semiha Şakir Nursing Home. The project, which was implemented last year, aims to increase the quality of life of elderly individuals and continues its work with a large volunteer team.
As part of the project, volunteer academics and students from Istanbul Aydın University visit the nursing home and provide services in different areas such as audiology, physiotherapy, hair and beauty care, sports and music. Students and academics who are specialized in these areas aim to support both the physical and mental health of elderly individuals.
Last Year’s Success, This Year’s Momentum
This project, initiated under the leadership of AKEV, continues to expand this year following the successful results obtained last year. Project managers state that they will continue to organize various events in order to enrich the social lives of elderly individuals and ensure that they live a more active life with physical and mental activities.
One of the project volunteers is İstanbul Aydın University Hair and Beauty Care Program Program Head Lecturer Leyla Cesaret shared her experiences by saying, “Spending time with individuals in nursing homes and making a positive impact on their lives is a great pleasure for us. Our interactions with them add a lot to both them and us.”
Social Responsibility and Social Sensitivity
The project aims not only to support elderly individuals but also to make young people gain a sense of social responsibility. Volunteer participants both develop their professional skills and increase their empathy and sensitivity towards disadvantaged groups in society during their nursing home visits.
The Vefa Meetings project, which continues with broad participation this year, aims to increase the quality of life of elderly individuals and ensure that they participate more actively in social life.
