BEAUTY STANDARDS FOR THE FEMALE BODY AND URBAN SAFETY: BEYOND SPATIAL AND AESTHETIC WORKSHOP

The workshop titled “Beauty Standards for the Female Body and Urban Safety: Beyond Spatial and Aesthetic,” hosted by Istanbul Aydın University and organized in collaboration with the Anadolu Education and Culture Foundation (AKEV), was successfully held. The workshop focused on how beauty standards for the female body can be addressed within the context of urban space security. It also discussed the importance of developing strategies and policies that promote inclusive, fair, and sustainable approaches in urban planning.

During the event, which brought together academics, civil society organizations, local government representatives, and industry experts, the impact of aesthetic perceptions on public space experiences was examined from a multidimensional perspective. Discussions centered on the interaction between gender roles, spatial arrangements, security strategies, and aesthetic norms. Proposals were put forward for creating safer and more inclusive urban environments for women.

The results and recommendations produced at the end of the workshop are expected to contribute to urban policies, architectural design approaches, and civil society initiatives. In this regard, the event has been an important step in addressing beauty standards for the female body in urban space planning processes and developing new perspectives on urban safety.
