ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP
On June 2, 2022, the Sustainability Conference, themed “Sustainability Practices from an Environmental and Social Perspective,” was held at Istanbul Aydin University. The conference was a resounding success, featuring high-level participation from both the academic and business worlds.
The conference addressed the critical issues of “carbon footprint,” an indispensable element for a more livable environmental sustainability, and the equally important concept of “social footprint” regarding social sustainability. This was the first-ever conference within the academic community to focus on the subject of “social footprint,” and it was conducted under the auspices of Istanbul Aydin University.
The conference began with a workshop in which papers related to “Environmental and Social Sustainability” were presented and evaluated. In the second session of the conference, after opening speeches, a panel discussion involving representatives from the business world and academics successfully addressed the relevant topics. The conference was also shared with the public through live broadcasts on a TV channel, reaching a wider audience.
Furthermore, the conference featured the presentation of “Contributions to Environmental and Social Sustainability Awards.” These awards were presented to entities that have made significant contributions to creating awareness and fostering sustainable practices in these fields. The recipients of the Sustainability Awards included Global Compact Turkey, CDP Turkey, and Habitat Association.
In summary, the conference provided a groundbreaking platform for discussing the pivotal issues of environmental and social sustainability from both academic and practical perspectives. The focus on “carbon footprint” and “social footprint” underlined their critical importance in achieving sustainable practices and outcomes in the business world and beyond.
