ROLES OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND NGOs IN INDIVIDUAL PREPAREDNESS AGAINST DISASTERS
Anadolu Education and Culture Foundation (AKEV) hosted a workshop titled “Roles of Local Governments and NGOs in Individual Preparedness Against Disasters,” organized in collaboration with Beylikdüzü Municipality, the Disaster Education Application and Research Center (AFAM), and the Faculty of Communication’s Public Relations and Promotion Department.
The workshop focused on the crucial roles and collaboration opportunities of local governments and civil society organizations in individual preparedness processes for disasters. The opening speeches were delivered by Mahmut Hersanlioğlu, the Vice Governor in charge of Disasters, Mehmet Murat Çalık, the Mayor of Beylikdüzü, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Hakkı Aydın, the Rector of Istanbul Aydın University, and Prof. Dr. Haluk Özener, the Director of Istanbul AFAD.
The event brought together over 200 expert participants from 12 universities, 24 civil society organizations, and 14 district municipalities. The findings from the presentations and discussions held during the workshop are expected to shed light on future disaster management strategies.
