International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Event Held on 25 November

The “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – 25 November” event, organized by the Istanbul Aydın University Women’s Studies Coordination Unit in cooperation with the Anadolu Education and Culture Foundation (AKEV), was held online on 25 November 2025. The programme, broadcast live on the IAU Women’s Studies YouTube channel, attracted great interest from students, academics, and representatives of civil society.

During the event, Attorney Gökben Ahi Vayis, in her talk titled “Alimony Rights / Protecting Women Against Economic Violence,” addressed the legal framework of alimony rights and their significance in combating economic violence. Attorney and Lecturer Özlem Şen, in her presentation “Law No. 6284 / The Shield of Law in Combating Violence Against Women,” explained the protective and preventive provisions of Law No. 6284 through illustrative case examples.

Moderated by Dr. Burcu Güdücü, the session concluded with a Q&A segment that deepened the discussion and drew attention to the legal, social, and institutional dimensions of the struggle against violence towards women.
